What students walk out with

Six skills, practised until they stick.

It isn't a lecture. It's sleeves rolled up, everyone on their feet, having a go, getting feedback and having another go. It's the same way Dale Carnegie has taught these skills to adults for over a century.

Think on your feet

A simple structure for answering on the spot, so a curly question becomes a chance rather than a freeze.

Weigh it up, then make your case

Get the facts, weigh them up, reach a decision and get it across in two minutes or less. Analytical thinking that other people can actually follow.

Disagree without the drama

Push back on an idea with evidence while keeping the relationship intact. Critical thinking, said out loud.

Get people on side

The principles behind How to Win Friends and Influence People, put to work in group projects, teams and part-time jobs.

Connect with anyone

Remember names, start a conversation and make a decent first impression at interviews, open days and new jobs.

Keep your head under pressure

Practical habits for handling worry before exams, interviews and the big decisions that come with finishing school.

Since 1912

Plenty of programs teach confidence. This is the original.

Generation. Next is the youth edition of the world-famous Dale Carnegie Course, the program behind How to Win Friends and Influence People. Same proven methods, now shaped around job interviews and first impressions instead of boardrooms.

Every student takes home their own copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Where it shows up

Wherever they're headed, other people are involved.

  • On the field

Captaincy, team talks, a hard conversation with a coach, and holding your nerve when selection's on the line.

  • On stage

Auditions, performances and the nerves that come with them. Owning a room works the same way whether you're talking or playing.

  • In class

Class presentations that count towards the mark, and group assignments where someone has to get everyone moving.

  • At a part-time job

The first interview, and the first time a customer's unhappy and it's your problem to sort.

  • Leading something

School captain, SRC, a club, a band or a business idea. Anything where other people need to come with you.

  • At home

Making a decent case for the car keys, and disagreeing without slamming a door. Parents may notice this one first.

About Generation.Next

In their own words.

  • I think Lauren's got some tools now that any teenager needs: tools and strategies to go forward with. … If we all had those skills and tools when we were young, it would be a different world today.

    Anthony Fuge

    Parent

  • I've become a lot more confident in what I want to say. In things like group projects, I feel like I'm able to speak up a bit more and tell people what I think.

    Meg Woods

    Student

  • Before, I was quite shy around new people … now I've been able to go up to people and express myself, and I have more confidence in big social situations where I don't know that many people.

    Leo Aquique

    Student

  • What I took out of the Dale Carnegie course was being more comfortable presenting in front of people. I learned how to reduce stress and anxiety, how to become a better listener, how to take a genuine interest in other people, and how to smile.

    Julian

    Student

  • It's helped me in a lot of ways, in school and out of school, being a better friend, and it's going to help in the long run, whether that be at school, uni or whatever career path we choose.

    Josh Elbourne

    Student

  • I'm a bit of a worrier. … Dale Carnegie has helped me to live in day-tight compartments, so I'm no longer taking on all this extra worry that's been weighing me down.

    David

    Student

  • Every year I come back and become a graduate assistant for the Dale Carnegie Generation Next course, because I love seeing the development of teenagers through every part of their life.

    Julia

    Graduate assistant and past participant

  • It's really helped me build self-confidence in front of a group of people, and it's really helped my emotional intelligence, definitely.

    Jason

    Student

  • My biggest takeaway from this course is my development in public speaking.

    Kelly

    Student

Does registering my interest commit me to anything?

No. This is an expression of interest, not a booking. It's free and there's no obligation. You'll be the first to hear when Easter dates and bookings open, and the 20% early bird discount is locked in against your email address.

Who is it for?

Generation.Next is for high school students in Years 9 to 12, usually aged 14 to 18. Parents can register on behalf of their son or daughter, and students can register themselves.

What if they have finished school?

School leavers, uni students and young professionals usually start with the Dale Carnegie Course, our flagship program for adults. You can find it on the Dale Carnegie Course page of our website.

When and where does it run?

The next cohort runs over the Easter school holidays in 2027, in Sydney and Melbourne. Exact dates and venues will be confirmed with everyone who has registered interest before bookings open.

What happens over the two days?

Each student completes a short online skills assessment before day one. Day 1 covers confidence and connection: speaking up, first impressions and thinking on your feet. Day 2 covers influence and dealing with pressure: making a case, disagreeing well and staying steady when it matters. Afterwards, a second assessment produces a personal report showing what's shifted.

Is this just a public speaking course?

No. Speaking is part of it, but most of the two days goes on thinking clearly under pressure, persuading, handling disagreement and building relationships. The talking is how we practise.

My teenager is quite shy. Will they cope?

That's who a lot of the program is built for. We start small, build up gradually, and nobody gets thrown in the deep end on the first morning. Groups are capped at 20, so everyone gets real practice time.

How much does it cost?

The standard price is $1,800 + GST per student. Families who register interest get 20% off the Easter 2027 program, which is $1,440 + GST.
